Funeral services will be held at Rehobeth UMC on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery in Greensboro. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm St. Chapel, 515 N. Elm St. in Greensboro on August 22, 2018.
Born in Pitt County, Barbara was the only child born to the late Bernice Lynwood Gardner and Nellie Owens Gardner, and was a long-time member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church. She was Registered Nurse and worked at several hospitals and nursing home facilities before teaching CNA classes at GTCC. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. She cherished her family but, her passion was serving her Lord and Savior. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Paul J. Lanier and her second husband Lawrence Gray.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Paul J. Lanier, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Jamestown, David O. Lanier (Dorothy) of Pleasant Garden, and Daniel Gardner Lanier of Greensboro; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, The National Alzheimer’s Foundation, or to Rehobeth UMC.
