Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
Barbara was born February 19, 1938 in Surry County, to the late Jessie and Elsie Branch and was a member of New Covenant Wesleyan Church. She retired from J.P. Stevens as a Quality Control Manager. Barbara was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making meals to share with family and friends. She enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening and liked making dolls in her spare time. Barbara was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Cooper.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Ernest Clayton Melvin, Sr. of the home; daughters, Sherry M. Sneed and her husband Fred of Pleasant Garden and Kim Benson and her husband John of Greensboro; son, Steve W. Millsap; step-son, Clayton Melvin and his wife Lisa of Franklinville; sister, Delores Harrelson of Greensboro; six grandchildren, Jennifer Noble, Brooke Sneed, Ryan Sneed, Jarrett Benson, Katie Melvin, and Spencer Melvin; great-granddaughter, Ellie Noble; and a host of extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home 6000 High Point Rd., in Greensboro.
