Matthew Delbert Shelton, age 79, son of Milburn Dalton Shelton and Diora Cutshall Shelton went to meet his Lord on November 6th at Life Care Center of Greeneville. Matthew was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1955 to 1959, worked for 22 years at Huyck Formex and 13 years at Magnavox/Philips. He attended First Church of God for as long as his health permitted.
Matthew was an avid outdoors man who loved to hunt with his sons, nephews, and friends. He also enjoyed a good golf outing with family and friends.
Matthew is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Pruitt Shelton; three sons and daughters-in-law: Mark and Diane Shelton of Greeneville, Clay Shelton of Fall Branch, and Aaron and Joy Shelton of Greeneville, and Jordan Clark who is loved as a son , also of Greeneville; grandchildren: U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Tim Shelton, Ashley Shelton of Nashville, Jason Shelton, Brodie Shelton and Morgan Shelton, all of Greeneville; sisters: Sue Rollins, Janet Smith and Brenda Sharp, all of Greeneville; two brothers: Ralph Shelton of Greeneville and Charles Shelton of Mountain City; sister-in-law: Peggy Shelton; brother-in-law: Jim Russell; several nieces and nephews; and one very special nephew: Danny Rollins.
He is preceded in death by a son: Jason Kraig Shelton; four sisters: Oneta Parton, Helen Doyle, Ruth Russell, and Alma McAfee; and two brothers: Jimmy Shelton of Illinois and Paul Shelton of Greeneville.
The family will receive friends from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm Friday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dennis Shumate and Rev. Dale Gruver officiating.
Interment will follow in River Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tim Shelton, Jason Shelton, Brodie Shelton, Danny Rollins, James McAfee, and Jordan Clark. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Ottinger, Fred Daniels, Arlin Shelton, Steven Akin, Carson Parton, Bruce Crum, and Orgil Miller.
