Margaret Elizabeth Payne Lamb, 88, of Greeneville, passed away Saturday morning at Laughlin Memorial Hospital with family by her bedside. She was born December 20, 1924, the daughter of the late Charlie and Minnie Graham Payne in Greene County, Tenn.
She was a long-time member of Carters Station Church (Albany) but attended Lick Creek Valley Freewill Baptist Church in Mosheim as long as her health permitted.
She was a devoted housewife, mother and grandmother. She contributed several years of her life as a healthcare provider. She had a longing to care for the sick and elderly, becoming attached to them as she would talk and comfort them during their sickness.
She was so admired for her love for her husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends. She made a difference in the lives of others for her tender kindness and overwhelming love. Our Mother held her children’s hands for a while, but she will remain in our hearts forever.
She was her happiest when she had the love of her life (Woodrow) with her, but after he passed, she longed to be surrounded by her grandchildren and children. She was married to Woodrow Hix Lamb on Dec. 21, 1946 and they shared 64 precious years together.
Survivors include: her sons and daughters-in-law: Danny and Darlene Lamb of Afton, Wayne and Ruth Lamb of Beaufort, S.C., and Bryce and Kathy Lamb of Greeneville; her daughters and sons-in-law: Ann Hixson and Gary Shelton of Mosheim, and Gail and Larry Landers of Greeneville; 14 grandchildren and spouses: Chris and Connie Lamb, Kerri and Steven Munsey, Brett and Tammy Lamb, Angel and Robert Gay, Tina and Kevin Gentry, Waynette and William Payne, Lisa and Roger Greene, Brandi and Rev.
