She was a homemaker and a member of Lord’s House Church.
Our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother was the kind lady who loved everyone and everyone was beautiful in her eyes. Even though she was blind, she saw beauty in everyone. She was a great friend to everybody. If you were hungry, she made sure you ate. If you needed a place to stay, she would always make room.
She loved her Lord and going to church. She had a wonderful singing voice and loved to sing for everybody. She did her own cooking and loved to make quilts. This wonderful lady will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by two daughters: Nola Mae Landers of the Fairview Community and Vickie C. Landers and fiancé Dean Tweed of Afton; two sons: Ricky A. Landers and spouse Rena of Poplar Springs Road and Robert J. Yokley of Unicoi County; step son: Keith Yokley; four granddaughters: Tina Duncan of Mosheim, “Ellie” Pickering and husband Danny, Shawntaine Hartman, and Britney Yokley; six grandsons and spouses: Chanse and Angel Yokley, Ben and Tiffany Greer, Paul and Candice Henderson, “Lil” Robert, Derrick and Brandon Yokley; step grandson: Kenny Hamilton; great grandchildren: Kimberly Hensley and husband Jimmy, Matthew and Miranda Landers, Allen McCamey , Adam Hamilton, Shawana Yokley, and twins Mason and Khloe Henderson; two step great grandchildren: Tobie Garland and Latanya Haire; great-great grandchildren: Kirston Osborn, Tristan and Sarah Hensley, and Kailyn Haire; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Jeanetta Manis, Martha and Carson Gentry, Vernie and Clell “Peewee” Shelton, and Paul Mercer; brothers and sisters-in-law: Glen and Pauline Landers, Earnel and Linda Landers, Warren and Mildred Landers; very special sister-in-law: Pearl Landers, who was more like her sister and best friend; very special friend: Ed Hensley; several nieces and nephews; special neighbors and friends: Mr. and Mrs. Donny Norton; other special friends: Zane Tucker, Jay Hugh Jennings, the Dunbar family, Junior McIntosh, and all of her church friends whom she loved dearly.
She was a daughter of the late Nelson and Elizabeth “Liz” Shelton Landers and was preceded in death by her husband: Lola Leroy Yokley; two sisters and a very special brother-in-law: Betty and Clark Gunter and Roberta Mercer; one brother: Rufus “Bud” Landers; a special little great grandson: Anthony Nathaniel Hamilton; a special little niece: Mary Ann Gunter; and a special grandson-in-law: Danny Duncan.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Refuge Baptist Church (formerly Union Chapel), with Rev. Jay Hugh Jennings and Zane Tucker officiating.
Interment will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery.
Her pallbearers will be Dean Tweed, Danny Pickering, Kenny and Adam Hamilton, Tim Blazer, and Matthew Landers.
Timothy Blazer Jr. and Zane Tucker will serve as honorary pallbearers.
