She was a member of Romeo United Methodist Church and was actively involved in church activities as long as her health permitted serving as a teacher for The Ruth Sunday School Class.
For the past several years, she had lived in Bristol, VA to be near her son and daughter-in-law, at first living at The Grand Court Assisted Living and later at NHC Healthcare.
In May of 2010, she moved to Heartland Healthcare in Charleston, SC, again to be near her son, who was a patient at Kindred Hospital-Charleston.
She was a graduate of Harrison-Chilhowie Baptist Academy in Seymour, Tennessee and received her BA in Education from East Tennessee State University.
Mrs. Frye was a teacher in the Greene County School System for 37 years. She began her teaching career as a teacher in two-room elementary schools. She taught English at South Greene High School for many years and was an English teacher at Chuckey-Doak High School at the time of her retirement. In recent years, she has received many notes and phone calls from former students thanking her for the excellent background in English they received as her student.
She was born October 8, 1922 in Sevier County, Tennessee and was the daughter of Ennis Eugene Price and Sarah Kerley Price. She was the last surviving member of the Ennis Price family
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Anne Hartman Frye of Bristol, VA; her grandchildren: Randy and Jennifer (Frye) Sheets of Isle of Palms, SC, Ed and Angie (Frye) Shaffer of Sevierville, TN, and Randy and Kelly Frye of Savannah, GA. Nine great-grandchildren: Christian, Conner, Cameron, and Cayden Sheets of Isle of Palms, SC, Austin and Zachary Shaffer of Sevierville, TN, and Aaron, Hannah, and Elise Frye, of Savannah, GA. Sisters-in-law and brother in-law: Veryl Price of Sevierville and Ann Price of El Paso, Texas and Marvin Cofer of Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Dewey Frye; her son, Tyrone Paul Frye, who died May 21, 2011; her sisters, Ruby Manis, Julie Lee, Florida Clabo, Mary Ruth Bales, and Wahletha Cofer; her brothers, Ennis Price, Jr and Eugene Price.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 pm on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Kiser Rose-Hill Funeral Home in Greeneville, TN.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 17, in the Kiser Rose-Hill Chapel. Interment will follow in the Mount Carmel United Methodist Cemetery near Mosheim, TN. Rev Doug Jennings and Rev Donna Waddle will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Randy Frye, Ed Shaffer, Randy Sheets, Christian Sheets, Conner Sheets, Austin Shaffer, Hervie Hartman, and Tanner Collins.
