She was a graduate of Camp Creek High School in 1961 and a 1965 graduate of Tusculum College. Her undergraduate studies were at the University of Tennessee.
She had taught at Greystone Elementary School and South Greene High School.
Dixie served as deputy in charge of U.S. District Federal Court until she retired. She then opened Dixie’s Christian Book Store, which she owned and managed for 30 years.
She was a 45-year member of Nolachuckey Chapter of DAR. She attended Gethsemane Church as long as her health permitted, where she served in various offices. She loved her church family and was instrumental in raising funds for the building of the church pavilion named in the memory of her father, Tom Blake.
She was well known for her collection of hats. She would be seen wearing one of her hats for different occasions.
Dixie is survived by a sister and her husband, Madge and Vance Walker; a sister-in-law, Marie Blake; several nieces and nephews: Amanda (Greg) Foulks, Lionel Blake, Jeff (Teri) Blake, Chris (Melissa)Blake, Freddy Blake, Jamie (Terry) Copeland, Christy (Jason) Crane, Duane Blake, Melissa (Eric) Wise, Van (Margaret) Walker, Tommy Walker; and a great aunt, Marie Brown.
She was the daughter of the late Tom and Malcena Blake and was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Blake and Randy Blake.
The family will receive friends 4:00-7:00 pm Friday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The funeral service will then be held at 7:00 pm Friday in the chapel. Rev. Jeff Blake, Rev. Mark Laughlin, and Chris Blake will officiate.
Emtombment will be conducted at 10:00 am Saturday at GreeneLawn Chapel Mausoleum. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 on Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery for the committal service.
Pallbearers will be Lionel Blake, Chris Blake, Freddy Blake, Duane Blake, Van Walker, and Tommy Walker.
