Larry F. Huffman, 71, of Greencastle, Indiana, passed away at Cloverleaf Healthcare of Knightsville, Indiana on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.
Larry battled Parkinson's Disease for the last 10 years of his life. Larry was born on July 23, 1950 in Greencastle, IN, the son of Walter Franklin Huffman and Garnet (Proctor) Huffman, and was a 1968 graduate of Bainbridge High School. He attended Indianapolis Technical Institute, where he earned his degree in computer programming. He was also a member of the Bainbridge Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Huffman went on to graduate from the 59th Class of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1980, before beginning his career at the Greencastle Police Department. He achieved the rank of Captain before departing GPD to move into the field of Corrections at Putnamville Correctional Facility (then the Indiana State Farm). He was ultimately promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and during his employment at PCF, Larry also served as a Union Steward for the UAW before retiring after 30 years. On April 14, 1972, Larry married Michele Bridges Huffman at the Russellville Christian Church. He was also a member of the Bainbridge Christian Church. In his early years, Larry enjoyed bowling, playing softball and camping. Larry's recent interests included following the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, going to the casino and throughout his entire life, spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Michele, son, Matt, and sister, Donna Rust, of Brownsburg. Also, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Hopkins Rector Funeral Home. Larry would love to see his many friends and family there.
