Born September 29, 1940 in Decatur, IL to John Robert Sullivan and Wanita Eileen Sullivan. Mike graduated from Sullivan High School in Sullivan, Illinois, where he was a standout football player. Mike attended Eastern Illinois University to study Business and European Literature. During the Vietnam War, Mike served in the armed forces. He was stationed on Parrot’s Beak along the Cambodian border. Following honorable discharge, Mike joined Grant’s Corp as a management trainee/salesman. He worked in management with Grant’s Department Stores across Texas, California and Arizona. Mike transitioned from Grant’s to a sales position with MAC Tools where he advanced from territory sales to Midwest General Manager with Matco Tools over the course of a decade long career. Mike stepped away from the corporate landscape and became a small business owner when he, along with his son Kevin, purchased Marvin’s in 1991. Together, they turned a small restaurant into a local landmark.
Mike was an avid DePauw athletics supporter, travelling with the basketball team overseas on multiple occasions. In his free time, Mike was an insatiable reader; his house is a library of history and fiction. Mike also loved fishing and playing golf with close friends, accumulating 5 Hole in Ones and serving as President of Windy Hill Country Club. Mike was also an active member of the Putnam County Museum, serving as a Board Member for multiple years. Mike will be remembered for his sharp wit and fiercely loyal friendships.
Mike is survived by three children, Colleen, Chris (Krista), Kevin (Kim) seven grandchildren Jessica, Katie, Jack, Caroline, Kyndal, Michael, Connor, and three Great Grandchildren Parker, Declan, Elsie.
All that new Mike would not be surprised to know there will be no service.
