Robert Joseph “Bob” LaRocque died October 29, 2015 in Loveland, CO. Bob was born in Worcester, Massachusetts to Exeos Joseph and Rita (Penny) LaRocque. He attended school in Worcester County. Bob joined the Army at the age of 17 and served for 20 years serving in both the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. His medals and awards include the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. His career took him to more than 60 countries. He retired in 1968 attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer II. In 1964 he married Kathleen “Kathy” (Galant) LaRocque whom he met while they were both stationed at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. They were married 51 years.
Following his military service, the family returned to Colorado where Bob worked for Colorado State University for 17 years and then for the University of Colorado for 3 years in the Office of Sponsored Research before his second retirement. While at CU he earned the National Science Foundation Meritorious Service Award.
Bob is survived by his wife, Kathy, children, Rev. Ronald Glen LaRocque and his husband Edward Kester of Winston-Salem, NC; Melissa Kathleen Draxler of Ft. Collins, CO; Nicole Maria LaRocque and her husband Elwyn Davidson of Erie, CO, and Sgt. Maj. Stephen Joseph LaRocque and his wife Nicole of Ft. Drum, NY and 7- Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by; his parents, sisters; Viola McAllen, Pat Mercon and Estelle Wilson, brother; Charles LaRocque.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Buckhorn Presbyterian Church, 8762 N. County Road 27 in Masonville, Colorado. Interment with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Fort Collins, Colorado. In Lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Army Emergency Relief Fund or the USO, in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins, Colorado 80526.
