Paul M. Stoddard

Paul Merritt Stoddard, born on January 16, 1932, in Ogallala, Nebraska, to Fred and Amelia Stoddard, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, at the age of 92. Surrounded by his family, Paul took his final rest in his home of 26 years in Larkspur, Colorado.

Paul grew up in Ord, Nebraska, and after graduating high school, he attended the University of Nebraska where he played college football. Paul married Virginia Struckman in December of 1952. Paul then enlisted in the Navy, proudly serving his country. After completing his military service, Paul and Virginia moved to Waseca, Minnesota where Paul completed his Mortuary Science Degree at the University of Minnesota in 1956. Paul and Virginia settled in Greeley, Colorado, where they built a life raising their five children and serving their community.

In 1978, Paul and Virginia founded Stoddard Funeral Home in Greeley, Colorado, dedicating themselves to serving their community with care and compassion. Paul’s commitment to service extended further when he was elected Weld County Coroner and served families from 1979 to 1990.

Known for his kindness, sense of humor, compassion, and unwavering love for his family, Paul touched countless lives. Innovative, smart, and endlessly creative, he brought thoughtfulness and ingenuity to everything he did. He cherished time spent with loved ones and left an enduring mark on his community and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In 1997, Paul and Virginia retired to their home in Larkspur, Colorado, where they continued to cherish time with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Paul is survived by his children: Tom (Maria), John (Pam), Randy, and Julie. He leaves behind eight grandchildren: Kevin (Lauren), Paula, Virginia (Ryan), Emily (Ethan), Rachel (Brian), Brigette (John), Sarah, and Rory; and 3 great grandchildren, Wesley, Dorothy, and Noelle.

He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Michael, his beloved wife of 71 years, Virginia, and his siblings: brothers Gerald, Orville, Jay Stoddard, and sister Roberta Rathbun.

A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on December 12, 2024, at Stoddard Funeral Home in Greeley, CO, the very place he and Virginia lovingly built to serve their community.

Paul will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, service, and devotion will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.
