Louise Matilda Meyer

Louise was born on December 10, 1925, the second of five children born to Alvin and Matilda (Flesner) Jung, in Beatrice, NE. Louise moved to Fairbury, NE to attend high school, living with family friends and helping with household chores for room and board. After high school she was employed by J.C. Penney Company in Fairbury, until she moved back with her parents in Jansen, NE, to help care for her newborn sister. Louise worked for her dad in his creamery and in the local grocery store. With World War I in full force, Louise and other ladies from their small town gathered in the evenings, twice a week, to fold bandages for the Red Cross to help with the war efforts.

Martin Meyer arrived on the scene; and the two were engaged before Marty was sent to Saipan as a left-wing gunner on a B-29 Aircraft Bomber. Louise and Marty wrote letters to each other every day, so Louise made the trip to the Post Office daily to receive the precious letters from her loved one. When letters stopped coming in early June of 1945, Louise knew something was wrong. After a week or so, a letter arrived and Louise found out that Marty's plane caught fire while in flight over the Pacific Ocean, while heading to Japan on a bombing raid. Marty was rescued several hours later, in the dark of night, by a Navy Destroyer deployed from Iwo Jima to Saipan. June 1* became known as Marty's 2nd birthday.

It was on a brief furlough from the war when Marty married his sweetheart, Louise, on July 22,1945.

A small family wedding--with only a dozen red roses given to her by her groom to carry down the aisle- turned into a much larger wedding when the church's pastor announced, on that Sunday morning, that the entire congregation was invited. Flowers from neighbors' gardens served as altar decorations and flower girl's bouquets.

To their union, a son, Ronald Wayne and daughter Jeanne Louise were born. After some time farming in Nebraska, the family moved to Fort Morgan, CO where Louise was again employed by JC Penney Company. They later moved to Sterling, CO where Louise continued employment with Penney's. The couple ran their own business for many years until moving to Loveland in July 1976. This time Louise only spent a few years working for Penney's before retiring. She truly enjoyed her years in Loveland where she made many friends, enjoyed Bible studies and helped with Birthright to save unborn babies.

She enjoyed hearing God's Word and would use Bible scriptures to encourage others.

You would always find a dish of chocolates next to Louise's chair to share with guests, and especially her son-in law, Rich. She always made outsiders feel welcome and important by hugs and inquiries about their lives. Louise's world would light up when conversations turned to family. She remembered birthdays and each family member's activities. She would spend hours proudly creating just the right card to send her love for those special occasions.

Louise and Marty were like peanut butter and jelly so when he left her nearly 10 years ago, after 67 years of marriage, her life naturally changed. But her heart never stopped rejoicing in the love of her family and she was enthusiastic about sharing how proud she was of them.

As expected, she was an old school traditional mindset lady, but she was willing to adapt to computers and cell phones so she could stay in touch, cherishing each text, picture, and phone call she received from grand and great grandkids.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, husband Marty and Son Ron. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Cathy Meyer of Billings, MT; daughter Jeanne (Meyer) Larson and husband Rich of Greeley, CO; her precious grandchildren, Dawn Worley and husband Michael of Evanston, WY; Deah Falkner of Omaha, NE and Jamie (Meyer) Campbell and husband, Dion of Billings, MT; great-grandchildren: Reghan, Rylan and Riann Worley; Tye and Alexa Falkner; Kate and Emma Campbell, and several nephews and nieces.
