Joyce was born at Weld County Hospital in Greeley, Colorado to Joe Frank Thompson and Wilma Marjorie Barrett on August 10, 1931. Joyce married the love of her life, Jerry Lee Carr, on January 14, 1951. Joyce graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado on December 8, 1973.
Joyce was a wife and mother of three boys and worked as a Theatre Manager at Cooper Highland Theaters, and a Bookkeeper and Receptionist at Northern Colorado Allergy Clinic and the medical office of Dr. Stanley Hess. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Epsilon Sigma Alpha International, Business and Professional Women, Friends of the Greeley Museum, North Colorado Medical Center Volunteer’s Auxiliary, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She volunteered in her community and enjoyed photography, crafts, reading, genealogy, and history.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Lee Carr of Greeley; her father, Joe Frank Thompson of Salinas, California; and her mother, Wilma Coon of Greeley, Colorado.
Joyce is survived by her brothers, Bill J. Thompson, and Kenneth Upham Thompson; sister, Jo Ann Martinez; son, Jerry Ray Carr and his wife Clara and their son Lance Carr and daughter Teresa Cralley and their families; son, Robert Joe Carr, and son John Tracy Carr and his sons Michael Carr and Raymond John (R.J) Carr and their families.
A Funeral Service for Joyce will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Allnutt Funeral Service - Macy Chapel, 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley, Colorado, 80631 followed by a reception. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital in memory of Joyce.
