She was born November 17th, 1942 to Dr. C.W Patterson and Jewell (Malan) Patterson in Greeley, Colorado. She and her twin sister Judy were always known as the “Patterson twins.”
Jan graduated Greeley High School in 1960. After high school she attended The University of Arizona for one year, then moved back to Greeley and received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Education from The University of Northern Colorado. She was on the college honor roll multiple times.
Jan married Jim McKay on June 13th, 1964 in Greeley, Colorado. They have three wonderful children together; Mike, Pat and Julie. She lived in Greeley for 46 years and then moved to Aurora where she lived for 36 years.
First and foremost, Jan was a faithful follower of Christ, a devoted mother to her three children whom she adored with everything. She was a incredible, loving, and caring “Grammy” to her eight grandchildren. She cherished her time with her children and grandchildren. She was known for her kindness, love and unwavering loyalty. She was a trustworthy woman with an honest heart, always giving and deeply loved by all around her.
Jan was a member of Rainbow girls, Girls Scouts, National Honor Society, Delta Gamma Sorority, P.E.O and Questers. She was a member of The Greeley Country Club for many years enjoying playing tennis and golf with her family and friends. As a young girl, Jan rode horses with her daddy and enjoyed riding her horse named Major. Jan worked as a dining room hostess at the Stanley Hotel during the summers of her college years and absolutely loved going to Estes Park over the years. Estes Park was her favorite place to be.
For many years, Jan was a reading teacher and a substitute teacher in Greeley schools. Jan taught health education classes at Aims Community College and loved that job. She also taught senior citizen exercise classes for many years in Eaton and Greeley. Jan loved flowers, gardening, reading, antiques, decorating, and even had her own decorating company. She loved to entertain, play canasta, play tennis and golf, she enjoyed jogging, and was involved in Bible Study groups her entire life. She enjoyed her dining dollies group, book club group and her dinner club group.
Jan is survived by her twin sister Judith (Patterson) Pardun of Fresno, CA; her three children, Michael (Denise), of Dallas, TX; Patrick (Melissa) of Knoxville, TN; Julie (Mark) of Centennial, CO; Eight grandchildren – Montana (McKay) Goral, Reagan McKay, Connor McKay, Shawn McKay, Houston McKay, Chase Ham, Mason Ham, Blake Ham.
A celebration of life for Janice will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 1:30 PM at Allnutt Funeral Service - Macy Chapel, 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634. Contributions can be made to The Gideons International.
