Gilbert “Marty” Ramos Martinez, 68, of Denver, passed away August 5, 2016 Health Center of Franklin Park, Denver, Colorado. Gilbert was born September 6, 1947 in Waco, Texas to Francisco G. and Nicholasa (Ramos) Martinez. He grew up in Texas until the age of 16 when he moved to Kersey with his family. He helped work on many farms.
Marty entered into the U.S. Navy on December 30, 1964 and was honorably discharged on March 3, 1967. During his enlistment, he served aboard the USS Hornet CVS-12 off the coast of Vietnam. After his discharge he returned to Weld County. He served as a deputy sheriff and later pursued his profession as a self-employed musician, and entertained at numerous places.
Marty was an avid Denver Broncos fan and enjoyed music and life. His time spent with his family was very important. He enjoyed building and making things with his hands.
Marty is survived by four daughters Cindy (Steve) Dorsey of Scottsburg, Indiana, Melissa (James) Baxley of Arvada, Amanda Makoski of Arvada and Kreesha Franklin of Las Vegas, Nevada; three sons Marty (Patricia) Martinez of Thornton, Gerry Martinez of Denver and Michael Martinez of Denver; two sisters Hope (Jerry) La Mont and Nina (Marcus) Estrada of Fort Worth; three brothers Roy Meza of Waco, Rick (Annie) Meza of Austin and Paul (Cynthia) Meza of Ft. Worth; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and also several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister Sarah Findley and a brother Robert Meza.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Friday, August 12, 2016 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
