Duane Hopkins Barber, 103, of Greeley, died Saturday, August 10th at his home. Duane was born on December 31, 1909 in Weld County, Colorado, the oldest of 8 children born to Edward Earl and Ethel (McCune) Barber. He was raised in the Milliken area, attended the Fairview School, and graduated from Milliken High School in 1929. After retirement from farming, Duane stayed active by building and repairing violins, operating a ham radio station in his basement, woodworking, and playing old-time fiddle music. He was a member of the IOOF (Independent Order of Oddfellows) for over 80 years, and held many of the highest offices in both the Milliken and Greeley lodges. He and Florence were both members of the Colorado Pioneers Society, the First Presbyterian Church, and also supported the Greeley Boys and Girls Club.
