Mrs. Sughrue was born Christine E. Van Winkle in 1923 in Mutual, Oklahoma, to parents Elsie and Everett Van Winkle. While working as a seamstress, Christine met George Francis Sughrue Jr., an auctioneer. They married in 1959. She continued working as a seamstress all while teaching sewing for 4H. Christine and George had C&G Cattle Company. In her later years, Christine worked at home continuing her passion of sewing and ironing for others.
"Granny," as most people knew her, loved playing card games, her daily crossword puzzles, and falling asleep while watching golf. She loved babysitting her grandkids and she was always willing to help new extended family members with watching their babies. She loved old country music including Marty Robbins. Switching those old records on a record player and watching her face light up while listening to old country music was pure happiness for her.
Christine is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, two sisters, five brother-in-laws, four sister-in-laws, and nieces and nephews.
She is survived by three children, Denise (Rosendo) Castillo, Debra (Roy) Baker, and Robert Sughrue; grandchildren, Rebecca (Eric) Davis, Cristy (Tyler) Zumwalt, Scott (Laura Simpson) Carvalho, and Jennifer (David Baldwin) Wilkerson as well as five great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters, and one great-great granddaughter. She also has three sister-in-laws, Rose Wilkinson, Kathleen Neugebauer and Billie Van Winkle, and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life & Memorial Service for Christine will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Country Gospel Cowboy Church, 25 South Denver Avenue, Johnstown, Colorado 80534.
