Betty Ann Tompkins

Betty graduated from St. Martin High School in Biloxi, Mississippi in 1972. She was a beautiful person inside and out. In high school, she was a cheerleader; was on the Homecoming Court, and voted "Most Beautiful." Betty attended William Carey Community College for a time before starting her career as the Administrative Assistant to the Warden in the criminal justice system.

Betty was a wonderful baker, and enjoyed baking for her family and friends. She was also a very talented seamstress. She was very creative, and this was evident in the way she decorated her home. It was always beautiful and welcoming.

Betty cherished every minute she was able to spend with her grandchildren. They were the light of her life. She also loved trips with her family and friends, and her trips with her sister, Rita, were always an adventure. Betty absolutely loved the mountains, which was a very special place for her and her husband, Brad. She married the love of her life, Brad A. Tompkins, on July 20, 2017 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. He passed away on December 31, 2018; and although their time together was not long enough, she always knew she would see him again in heaven.

Betty is survived by her children; Jacob Buckheister of Colorado; Jennifer McCants of Mississippi; Adam Buckheister of Tennessee; and Anna Thames of Mississippi; her grandchildren; Eleanor Grace, Winter Grace, Clara Jane, and Vaughn Elizabeth; her sisters, Rita Watkins, Linda Wilcher, Judy Pigg, and Rhonda Burkes; and her brother, Bill Gilmer.

She was preceded in death by her father, William J. Gilmer; mother, Gwendolyn Calocote; and her husband, Brad A. Tompkins.

A Celebration of Betty's Life will be on Monday, October 7, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the LaSalle First Presbyterian Church, 51 Church Ct, LaSalle, CO 80645.
