Abel Gilbert Griego

Abel Gilbert Griego, 83, of Greeley, CO, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Pathways Inpatient Care Center in Fort Collins, CO. He was born July 29, 1939 in Trinidad, CO to Delores and Isabel Griego.

Abel married Efren Lagunas officially on March 16, 2020 but together for over 60 years. She passed away on January 20, 2022.

Abel worked as a lumberjack, farmhand and in construction throughout his life. He loved to sing, whistle, he also loved spending time with his family, listening to music, watching the Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos, fishing and playing the guitar. He also had a love of reading western books and watching Gunsmoke.

Abel is survived by his sons, Jerry (Gina) Griego, Will (Valerie) Griego and Joe (Isabel) Lagunas; his last surviving sibling, Liva; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and his special niece, Beatrice Castilleja.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delores and Isabel Griego, wife, Efren, son, Abel Gilbert Griego, Jr. and siblings, Andrew, Daniel, Ernie, Ben, Rosalie, Dora, Virginia and Esther.

Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2022 followed by a Recitation of the Rosary at 10:00 a.m. and funeral service at 10:30 a.m. all at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
