Richard (Yisrael) B. Weiner, MD, 63, of New Hyde Park, devoted and beloved husband of Karen Gitlin-Weiner, PsyD, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016 after a long struggle with multiple chronic medical conditions. He was born on December 1, 1953 in Flushing to Steven (Yitzhak) and Eleanor (Weinstein) Weiner. Rich graduated from Cardozo High School, Hofstra University and SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. He completed his medical training at Long Island Jewish Hopsital. With great dedication and loyalty for 29 years, he passionately advocated for his patients as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist for Kings County Hospital Center, Brooklyn.
While working at Kings County Hospital Center, Rich met his true love, Karen, to whom he was married for 27 years. He enjoyed following financial matters, listening to music, attending Broadway shows, watching CNN, internet surfing, and traveling. Together they took great pleasure in caring for and being entertained by their parrots and reptiles. Throughout their life together, Rich worked very hard at not letting his illnesses prevent them from doing the things that they wanted to do.
Rich is survived by his wife, Karen Gitlin-Weiner, PsyD as well as his sister, Lori Weiner, his nephew, Corey Weiner, his sister-in-law, Ronna Woodward, and his brother-in-law, Dana Woodward.
Rich’s family is very grateful for the compassionate and exceptional care provided by Dr. Abrar Husain, Dr. Vincent DeOrchis, Dr. Richard Matano and all of the staff who cared for him at St. Francis Hospital, Roslyn, as well as his outstanding and accommodating caregivers from People Care, Inc.
A memorial service will be held on January 3, 2017, at 10:00AM in the chapel of the Riverside Mortuary, 55 North Station Plaza, Great Neck. Following the service will be a burial at Pinelawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Weiner home beginning at 2:00PM that day. Memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Hospital Foundation, 100 Port Washington Blvd, Roslyn, New York 11576 (write “Richard B.
