On Wednesday, January 27, 2021, Murray Melvin (“Mel”) Rubin, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather died in New York at the age of 98. Born in Brooklyn, Mel attended City College of New York and the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. He was a communications officer aboard the USS Lexington in the Pacific during WWII. He went on to launch the award-winning Shaller-Rubin advertising agency that specialized in pharmaceutical, fashion, and packaged goods accounts. Mel was inducted into the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame in 2010.
Mel is survived by his children Jason and Deborah Rubin, Nina Rubin, and Emily Rubin; grandchildren Sam and Kyle Salkin, Henry Rubin, Gabriel Salkin, Charles Rubin, Abigail Rubin; and great-grandson Noah Salkin. He was married for 69 years to Isabelle Rubin, of blessed memory.
Interment will be private. Contributions in Mel’s memory may be made to The Fresh Air Fund of New York.
