Gert Milkes was born on the lower east side of Manhattan in 1932 and married her junior high school sweetheart, Howard Sapossnek (died 2003) at age 20. The couple moved to Queens where they raised a family of three. When her children grew up, she worked as a school secretary at PS 99 Queens. The couple retired to Florida and Gert returned to NY when health declined. Her interests included fashion, travel and politics.
She is survived by her children Dr. Robin Sapossnek, OD (Dr. Errol Rummel, OD) Dr. Mark Sapossnek, PhD (Linda Sapossnek), and Jill Klein (Steven Klein). She is also survived by 9 grandchildren:
(Sam, Julia, Danny, Adam, Clayton and Natasha ....with the addition of Jessica, Mandy and Courtney thru marriage); 7 great grandchildren (Rebecca, Jeremy, Jayden, Jake, Noah, Eve and Benjamin), 6 granddogs and a few grandcats.
Gert had impeccable style, spunk, wit and charm. She leaves a legacy of love.
A chapel service will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Riverside Nassau North Chapels, 55 North Station Plaza, Great Neck, NY 11021, followed by interment at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 685 Fairview Ave, Fairview, NJ 07022.
