I feel so privileged to have known the Hooper family for so many years and to have very much loved them now and through all those years.  So many memories are treasured and tucked away.  Hillary growing up with her Mother’s pride and love always so apparent.  Although I rarely saw Ann in later years, I looked forward to keeping up and was so saddened by her illness. I will miss having you in this world, Ann, but imagine your wonderful parents being right there with arms spread wide when you joined them.

So many good memories over the years.  Ours was s tight-knit family, growing up in the countryside of upstate NY, we spent a lot of time outdoors.   Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls, wonderful activities.  We all left for further education, but stayed in touch.   As the families grew and the next generation was added, we all returned home to Mom and Dad.   There we had tables of Upwords, Bridge, and O Hell.   Birthday celebrations with food cooked outside on the grill made for the perfect place for great conversation.   Ann, thanks for always being there, we miss you, Love, Mark 




My memories are all of Ann as a child when our families lived in Michigan and New York. There were five of us—Mark, Tony, and my brother Tom v. Ann and me in every game or contest or snowball fight we had. Ann was up for a the challenge. I remember laughing and girl-talking and beating the boys, at least as many times as they beat us. Ann was a thinker, always interested in the nature around us. She adored her brothers and loved her family. When I look at the pictures of the Hooper kids, I’m transported back to those golden days. I will always remember Ann with love and joy.

In celebrating Ann’s life I know of her strong love and devotion to her family.  Jim, Hillary and her family were always number one in heart and mind.  As a child she loved the outdoors and participating with our family in camping, hiking, swimming, golf and appreciating the beauties of nature.
Ann was a teacher with a focus on paralegal studies and government.  She cared about her students and the needs of others.  She loved the color purple and took great enjoyment in extended birthday celebrations.  She was an avid supporter of Coach K and Blue Devil basketball team and always rooted for her Cowboys.  She loved her dogs and travels with Jim to Yellowstone.  She overcame many challenges in life and continued to persevere no matter what the odds.  Let her goodness, spirit and determination live on with us and inspire us to do our best and to do good.  We will miss you Ann.


One of my earliest memories of my sister-in-law, Annie, was in 1977, when our first child, Catalina Jane, was born. Aunt Annie came by our house in Beaufort to see and hold the new baby. The next thing I knew, Annie was dancing and singing with Catalina in her arms all around the living room, while the song by Stevie Wonder played on the record player: "Isn't She Lovely, Made of Love"! 
It was such a happy time and represents to me the Love that Ann knew from an early age in the Hooper Household. She carried this Love into her marriage to Jim, and in her Love of her daughter, Hillary, and her granddaughters, Emma and Sophia. 
That Love is the memory I will cherish.

Ann Hooper Hudson is a beloved friend, prayer partner and educator that I met many years ago when she designed, developed, started and create the paralegal program for the North Carolina Community College System at Morehead City, NC.. She will be missed and her family will continue the legacy of love and family values established. 

I will miss you, Ann. I remember our good late night talks in Beaufort. I remember your wedding, a day of such happiness. I remember your pure joy when Hillary came to you as a baby. I remember your small smile and your quiet sense of humor. I love the picture of you walking with Mom at Jonathan's wedding. You both looked so pretty in your blue dresses. It is hard to let you go.
As Mary Oliver says:
"To live in this world
 you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go."
