Wendolyn Irene Willison

Wendolyn Irene Willison, age 67, went to be with her Lord on Monday, February 15, 2023. She will be remembered by her mother, Irene Willison; siblings Edward (Mary) Willison Jr., Craig (Cheryl) Willison, Shelly Steegstra, Valerie (Mark) Henderson, and Steve (Kim) Willison; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Wendy was preceded in death by her father, Edward Willison Sr.; brother-in-law, Bruce Steegstra; and nephew, George McNees.

Wendy spent her life serving and helping others in every way she could. Professionally, she lived out that passion teaching at Battle Creek Catholic Central and then Grand Rapids Catholic Central High Schools. Soon, she took a position at St. Clair County Community College where she not only instructed but served as one of its department chairs and curriculum coordinators. While at the college, she took great joy helping people transform their lives through education and practical training. Beyond the classroom, she advised small businesses in Port Huron and Canada, mentored numerous former and current students with career choices, and established the “Let’s Get to Work” program, one of the first professional clothing drives in her area. Although she was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Michigan Excellence in Teaching Award, she was truly surprised to learn her reputation had earned her induction to The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels for “service and accomplishments on behalf of others.” In retirement, she continued to serve family, friends, and community and soon found a new joy in working with young children at her parish’s Vacation Bible School.

Visitation with friends and relatives will take place from 5 - 7 p.m. with Rosary following at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. A Funeral Mass will commence at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1935 Plymouth Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506. An additional memorial service in Port Huron will be announced soon.

In honor of Wendy and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Community in Port Huron, MI. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcaresgrandville.com.
