Shirley A. Guy, age 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, March 5, 2022. She resided in Ishpeming, Michigan for most of her life until relocating to Grandville, Michigan in 2018. For the last 2 1/2 years, she was under the loving care of the wonderful staff at Sheldon Meadows Assisted Living Center and Spectrum Hospice in Hudsonville, Michigan.
Shirley was born November 17, 1929 in Wakefield, Michigan to the late Theodore and Ethel Peterson. After high school, she moved to Ishpeming and attended nursing school and began working as an LPN at Bell Memorial Hospital. She met her future husband, Richard Guy, in a coffee shop and it was love at first sight. God blessed them with nearly 69 years of marriage. The love between them was evident and they wrote letters of encouragement and advice on how to have a loving, successful marriage and sent them to their grandchildren on their wedding days. After her nursing career ended, Shirley and her husband owned and operated Tri-City Upholstery, which kept them busy for many years.
Shirley was a devoted wife and a loving, caring mother. She worked hard her whole life and she poured her heart and soul into everything she did - making sure it was done right. Through the years she enjoyed many things like sewing, crocheting, baking bread, and making her home and garden beautiful. But there was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her family and making sure you had everything you needed when you came to visit; she loved talking on the phone for hours when you were away. Later in life, her childhood memories are what stuck with her and she loved to share them often with her family.
Shirley is survived by her daughters Diane (Len) Oberdorf and Carol (Jim) Borst; sister, Sherry (Gene) Arntsen; six grandchildren Jim (Lalena) Welsh, Daniel (Rachel) Welsh, Chelsea (James) Russell, Joshua Borst, Melissa (Jason) Weinfurter, Ryan Gannage; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard; daughter, Sandra Gannage; grandsons John Welsh and Guy Veenendall.
Arrangements will be made jointly with Cook Funeral Home in Grandville, Michigan and Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming, Michigan. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
