Sandra Justine (Whittemore) Ypma was born August 2, 1937, and passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, March 13, 2025. While she was met in the blink of an eye at the river’s edge by her loving husband, Joseph Jay Ypma, she leaves behind to mourn her passing their three daughters Kim Ypma, Kris (Dave) Henderson, and Kelly Ypma; her precious grandchildren Austin (Michelle) Henderson, Audrey Henderson, and Taylor Ray; and great-granddaughter, Myka Henderson.
She enjoyed visiting with friends over tea, sitting on the patio and just feeling the warmth of the sun while enjoying her gardens, and reading, reading, and more reading. She was an excellent seamstress and could fix or make anything needed. In the last few years, she returned to the pleasure of painting and created many beautiful works. Always up for a little adventure, she enjoyed visits to Mackinac Island, road trips down South and leisurely day trips with her daughters. Her Christian faith was not limited to only Sundays but was something she lived every day. She will be missed not just by her family but by her many wonderful friends.
A celebration service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Kerry Watts will officiate. In honor of Sandy, contributions may be made to Grand Rapids First – Kids First. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
