Kurt Alan Sanders

Kurt Alan Sanders, age 76, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 13, 2024 after a lengthy journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Kurt is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pat Sanders; children Steve (Beth) Sanders, Brian (Karli) Sanders; grandchildren Ian, Paige, Finn, Sofie, Harper, Beckett; brother, Keith (Bea) Sanders; brother-in-law, Tom (Merrybeth) Burkman; sister-in-law, Karen (Fred) Garbowitz; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends. Kurt was preceded in death by his parents Karl and Shirley Sanders.

Kurt was born to Karl and Shirley Sanders on December 1, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. He later graduated from Lane Tech College Prep High School and Western Michigan University. Kurt met the love of his life, Pat, while at WMU and later moved to West Michigan. His career was predominantly at Foremost Insurance Group where he worked for nearly 35 years. In addition, Kurt served many organizations he was passionate about including the Grandville United Methodist Church - Financial and Trustee Committee, Grandville Athletic Boosters, and on the Big Star Lake Association Board of Directors.

Kurt enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at the cottage surrounded by his family and friends. He loved watching his sons and grandchildren play sports and time spent with them. His grandchildren will remember him fondly as being a playful and silly grandpa.

You rarely saw Kurt without his U of M cap; he always looked forward to his trips to the Big House and Lambeau Field. He also enjoyed NASCAR, country music, and a good manhattan.

During his progression with Alzheimer’s, he would often sneak a poke at someone or make a funny face. He would also be seen playing his air guitar while tapping his foot. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and all of Kurt’s “best friends” at the Oaks of Byron Center and Faith Hospice.

Visitation with the family will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, October 21, 2024 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. A memorial service celebrating Kurt’s life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Grandville United Methodist Church, 3140 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville, MI 49418, with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Kurt will be laid to rest privately at Winchester Cemetery in Byron Center. In memory of Kurt and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grandville United Methodist Church, Faith Hospice, or Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Michigan Chapter (West Michigan Office).
