Jocelyn Paterno Betts

Jocelyn was the daughter of José Paterno and Guadalupe Peralta, both Philippines natives, who preceded her in death.

Jocelyn is survived by her husband of 40 years, Daniel J. Betts (Allendale, MI); six children Ingrid Brizzee (Ammon, ID), Candice Jacobs (Columbus, OH), Camille Lacanienta (Provo, UT), Jacob Betts (Allendale, MI), Joseph Betts (Allendale, MI), and John Betts (Provo, UT); and 12 grandchildren.

Lyn was widely known for quiet living, faithful observance of God's laws, constant service to others, outstanding homemaking skills, giving comfort to the troubled, being an angel, and most of all, an outstanding wife, mother, and grandmother!

Lyn came from a large, loving family in the Philippines. Her seven siblings are all living and remain a powerful force for good in their in-laws' lives. They are Patricia Garcia (Florida), Heidi Jarencion (Philippines), Anna Ogbinar (Philippines), Elizabeth Sevilla (Nevada), Chelo Lucido (New York), Gina Duazo (Michigan), and Edong Paterno (Philippines).

Jocelyn came to the U.S. as a registered nurse in 1977. She met Dan that year and they were married in 1979. Once Jocelyn was ready to give birth to her first child, she retired from nursing and became a stay-at-home mom. One could say, "Lyn was retired for 39 years,” though her retirement only meant endless service and labor for others; all borne of love.

Jocelyn was pure-hearted, patient, loving as the day is long, committed to Christ, and blessed with very useful instincts and a beautiful countenance. Though hard to do, she gave up her homeland and became a U.S. citizen, because she was also a patriot. No one can fill the empty spot she left behind. Yet, the love and beauty she shared has infected others and will be multiplied over and over. She now waits for the resurrection and for the time of accounting before our God and His Son, Jesus Christ; It will be a wonderful day for her. Her family longs to be with her again and expects a great reunion among faithful ancestors, family, posterity, and friends from around the world.
