Dustin James Horen, age 20 of Wyoming, MI, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at University of Michigan Health-West in Wyoming, MI. Dustin was born July 22, 2002 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 2007, Elizabeth “Liz” Horen (Clark) stepped into the role of mother alongside Dustin’s father, Mark Horen.
Dustin lived a life-loving life. He possessed a contagious smile, an engaging wit, a creative spirit, a joyful heart, an imaginative mind, a confident swagger, and an infectious laugh. Dustin loved Legos, art, Animal Crossing, the outdoors, Halloween, Jeeps, travel, “Momma and Dustin days,” and people. He truly embodied a love for neighbor as he engaged every person he met with a spirit of kindness, respect, and friendship.
A lover of school, Dustin received a certificate of completion from Wyoming High School in 2022. After completion of his certificate, Dustin was chosen to attend the Region III Transitional Program through Grandville Public Schools where he formed meaningful relationships with his teachers and fellow students while learning additional life skills.
Dustin is preceded in death by his grandmother, Sharon Clark. He is survived by his parents Mark and Liz Horen. Dustin leaves behind a number of both biological and chosen family members who have been forever changed by his fabulously magnetic, pure, innocent, joy-filled approach to life.
A memorial service for Dustin will be held 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. The family suggests that those in attendance wear bright colors to celebrate Dustin’s personality.
