Beulah May "Lou" Adsmond

Early on Friday morning, May 31, 2024, Beulah May "Lou" Adsmond of Grand Rapids, Michigan entered the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father. Born December 29, 1929, in North Canton, Ohio to Walter and Ida Meyers, she was an Ohio resident until receiving her first teaching job in Grand Rapids, Michigan as an elementary orchestra teacher. She wore many hats throughout her life, not only as an orchestra musician (oboist in the Grand Rapids Symphony), but as a paint salesman for many years and writer of the popular “Appalachian Trail Food Planner” and the children’s book, “What Do You Do in Winter?” She had a passion for teaching kids about nature as a 4-H leader with tales about the lives of insects and as a volunteer at John Ball Zoo for 20 years. She shared this interest in nature with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Alan Adsmond; daughter, Sue Fox (Clifton Fox); sons Dan (Debra) and Steve (Brenda); as well as five grandchildren Caroline, Isabelle, Elizabeth, Megan, and Lauren. She is also survived by her sister, Roberta Cummings. Alan and the family are grateful for the attentive and thoughtful care that Lou has received from the staff at Porter Hills and from the caregivers of Emmanuel Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grandville United Methodist Church or to Kent County 4-H.

A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Grandville United Methodist Church, 3140 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville, MI 49418, with visitation from 1-2 p.m. prior to service. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guest book online.
