Beloved Brother Glenn Walter Davis
My dear brother wrote and dedicated this to me over twenty years ago. I had worked in MH services for over 35 years. I find that his beautiful poem applies just as much to him as he thought it did to me. Glenn was a loving caring man, who loved children of all ages and cared for all those facing difficulties and persecution. He donated to “St. Judes” even when he couldn’t afford to. He civil rights and was also involved with the VA, Wounded Warriors and the American Legion. He would literally give you the shirt off his back.
THE GIFT OF HUMANITY
For Some it is hard to face the issue of caring.
For others, like you, it” means but sharing.
Some would try to judge, demean or berate,
You see it simply to empathize, to relate.
The task is never over; rarely a thank-you for giving
Without your involvement, there is no reason for living.
There are countless to serve, you can help but a few.
It is not riches you seek; fortune will not be your due.
You see it all, the misery, pain and strife,
But touching others is your choice in life.
In politics, it’s rhetoric that wins a high share,
Fighting for social welfare, barely a penny will be there.
And yet you continue, for you there is no other way
Seeking, touching and helping others the order of the day.
Take peace and solace when your time has wound down,
For on your head, you’ll wear Humanity’s Crown.
