Cynthia Ledbetter Thompson died peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. Visitation 5-7 pm Friday, September 9 at McGilley & George Funeral Home, 12913 Grandview Road, Grandview, MO. A celebration of her life will be 1:00 pm Saturday, September 10 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1111 West Foxwood Drive, Raymore MO. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Mid-America Kansas City Chapter.
Cynthia was born on September 5, 1931 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She married Jim Ledbetter and they celebrated over 50 years of marriage. After his death, she enjoyed four very happy years with her second husband, Jerry Thompson. She was president of Phi Alpha Theta at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, where she received her B.A. in history and Master’s degree in American history. Cynthia taught high school in Grandview for over twenty years. She coached the girl’s high school softball team for many years and was deeply involved in AFS; hosting a number of exchange students from all over the world. She served as president of the Missouri Council of Social Studies and worked as a volunteer with the Kansas School for the Blind. Cynthia had a strong faith, was very active in her church and traveled on several missionary trips to India. She enjoyed planting flowers, serving as a docent at the zoo, loved to walk her dog, was a certified master diver and an avid Kansas City Royals fan. Her foremost love was her family and she devoted many hours to being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by all.
Cynthia was preceded in death by both of her husbands, Jim and Jerry, and her parents, Elmer and Mary. She leaves behind 2 brothers John Ahlbrandt, Belton MO and Joel Ahlbrandt, Paola KS; daughter Kim Williams, her husband, Doug, and their children, Spencer, Megan, Jamie, Kari and Dannie, Cape Elizabeth ME; daughter, Cindy Langensand, her partner, Mike, and her children, Erin, P.J., Mary and Cynthia, Raymore MO; son, Jeff Ledbetter, his wife, Laura, and their children, Layle, Lydia and Lexi, Columbus OH; daughter, Jamie D’Innocenzo, her husband, Bill, and their children, Nick, Katie and Maggie, Andover MA and seven great-grandchildren. She also had four daughters of the heart, Debbie Gallant, her husband, Ray and their children, Anthony, Kylie and Eric, Greenwood MO, Cate Porter, her husband, Matt Galbraith, and their two children, Melbourne Australia, Kathy Villalobos, her husband, Johnny and their children, Franceska and Jonelle, Webb City MO, and Zhanna Saparova, her husband, Beau Bledsoe, and their children, Aiden and Maya, Kansas City MO.
