Since the Lord is directing our paths, why try to understand everything that happens along the way. (Proverbs 20:24). On June 2, 2016 at 1:08 PM, Sue closed her eyes in death and left behind her earthly battle with brain cancer and soared to the open gates of heaven knowing that her Lord has taken her hand and is leading her home. She was the eldest of 5 children born to Elmer De Roos Jr. and Roberta M. De Roos. Sue is preceded in death by her Father 30 years ago. She is survived by her 2 daughters and their families, Rachel Lynn (Joel) VanKalker and Granddaughter Gabriella Lynn, Aimee Sue (Jimmy) Berg and 4 Grandsons James Kerwin III, Liam Patrick, Oliver Gavin and Jackson Eli and their Father and Grandfather Ronald Timmer; her Mother Roberta De Roos-Brockway and Stepfather Lyle G. Brockway; her siblings Steven (Linda) De Roos, Carol (Randy) Hoeksema, Deb (Matthew) Laleman and Douglas (Cari) De Roos, her dear and special friend Karen, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Sue graduated from Davenport College (University) and a number of years later from Baker College with a degree in medical transcription. She completed her working years at Blue Care Network on August 20, 2015 when she was transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health, Blodgett Campus’s Emergency Department. Sue was adventuresome and loved to travel and camp. A highlight in her life was being able to travel to Israel and being re-baptized in the River Jordan. Sue was an accomplished seamstress. All the new babies in her family were welcomed with one of Aunt Sue’s cuddly bath towel creations. Sue’s life journey was short and she was loved and will be missed by her whole family. As a family we would like to extend our deep felt gratitude to her neuro surgeon, Dr. Patra; her neuro-oncologist Dr. Sherman and her nurse navigator Sandy as they guided us through Sue’s battle with a Glioblastoma and to the Clark Retirement Community and all their care givers at Clark on Keller Lake for their loving, compassionate care extended to Sue in her cancer fight and all the considerations bestowed upon her family as we walked this part of her journey with her. Faith Hospice also joined us in this journey as they capably managed her care and kept her pain controlled so that she had a peaceful death. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Clark Foundation (1551 Franklin St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506), Faith Hospice (2100 Raybrook St. SE STE 300, Grand Rapids, MI 49546-5783) or the Van Andel Institute Brain Tumor Research (333 Bostwick Ave NE Grand Rapids, MI 49503) would be greatly appreciated. The funeral service will be held at Reyers North Valley Chapel on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 11am with Pastor Jerry Vander Velde officiating. Visitation will take place on Monday, June 6, 2016 from 6-9pm and on Tuesday starting at 10am until the service time. Susan will be laid to rest in Fairplains Cemetery.
