Norman G. Butler

Norman met his soon to be wife in Grand Prairie, TX when he went to fetch water for a family member. When he got to the well he saw Betty pouring out the dish water. October 18, 1947 that same year, they were married. They resided in Grand Prairie for 66 years and had two beautiful children.He was a wonderful husband and father. He would take his children fishing with him and they did at least one family vacation a year. He was an out-going man who always started his stories with “It happened years and years and years ago…” Norman was also organized and a little controlling, a habit developed from years in the U.S. Army. He liked his meals at 7, 12 and 5. Yet above all this he was a good provider.Norman worked at LTV for 13 years. After that he was the pastor at Calvary Tabernacle for 35 years until he retired in 1995. In his later years Norman received a gray jacket from his son that soon became a close companion. He wore that jacket all the time, and it required many hem jobs by Betty.He is preceded in death by his son Ronald Eugene Butler; his parents and 11 siblings.He is survived by his wife Betty Butler; son Dewey Butler and wife Shirley; daughter Janell Mayfield and husband Eddie; grandchildren Michelle Morphis, Jerod Bledsoe and wife Lindsay; great-grandchildren Frank Morphis III, Brenden Morphis, Micah Bledsoe, Isaac Bledsoe and numerous nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Mrs. Betty Butler. Donations will be accepted at the Funeral Home (Bean Massey Burge) and will be delivered to the Butler family weekly. Please make all checks payable to the Butler family, credit cards can be taken at the funeral home.
