Joyce M. Holland

Joyce Holland, 72, of Grand Prairie, Texas passed away July 20, 2014. She was born in Hugo, OK on September 14, 1941 to John Gorrel and Haley Harwood.In January of 1961 she set up on a blind date by her friend. Six weeks later she married Ernie Holland on February 16, 1961. They spent 53 happy years together. She was a wonderful wife and mother who always let her children know she loved them even when she had to discipline them. As her boys got older and taller than her she could just give them the “mom” look and would quickly start to behave. Joyce worked as an insurance clerk for Arlington Memorial Hospital. Most recently she was working as a school crossing guard. She had a passion for reading and her church; Calvary Baptist Church. She was very giving and sweet, but was never afraid to tell people the truth. She could be hard headed at time but had a good sense of humor. Other than going to lunch with the other senior women from her church she enjoyed spending time in her recliner in her pajamas. Joyce is preceded in death by her son Billy Holland and brother Jimmy Harwood.She is survived by her husband Ernie Holland, son Danny Holland, grandson Jordan Holland; brother Bill Harwood and sister Janie Harwood.Memorial Service will be Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church of Grand Prairie at 11am.
