Joseph John McMahon started his earthly journey on March 07, 1948 in Indianapolis, Indiana. A very intelligent man who spent his life researching and figuring things out for himself. This love of learning led him on many journeys calling home to many different states through the years. Some most noted were Missouri, Illinois, California, Florida, Ohio, Georgia, and Texas. His landing in Fort Lauderdale proved to be a smart move, as it was there he met who would become the love of life, his now wife of 50 years, Marilyn. Their meeting was one of happenstance through friends of a friend at a duplex. It just so happened their day of meeting was also Marilyn’s 16th birthday. The rest as they say was history. They decided it was time to venture out on their own and moved to Akron Ohio where they were married October 28, 1973. Ohio was short lived as they decided to give Buford, Georgia a try. It was here they would introduce to the world their beloved sons Shannon (1975) and Nathan (1980).
In the year 1986 life would move them to their final destination of Grand Prairie Texas. A move led by a transfer by the Panasonic Corporation for Joe. His job involved extensive traveling all over the US, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Whenever he could arrange to take his family, they would go together. It was here Marilyn and Joe would also run their own business for seven years, Southwest Servicer.
Joe will most notably be remembered as a devoted husband who stuck by Marilyn’s side where he took on his most valued occupation of all, her caregiver. Even through his own battles with illness he never lost focus of her. She and her sons remember him with smiles as they tell of his many colorful idioms. Joe loved his cats, including strays. He was a frequent reader of sci-fi, working on cars, and avid news watcher. A collector of music, books, guns and you would find him listening to music as he was fixing anything and everything that needed repair.
His sons will remember the camping, fishing, skateboard ramp building, shooting and gun building. More importantly the time spent with their dad. Nathan will remember him as his best friend. Marilyn loved his quick witted humor as she fondly shared a “POOF” saying as he called them. If she were to say make me a sandwich, he would say “POOF “ you’re a sandwich!! A life full of wonderful memories will give family and friends and all who met Joe a reason to smile and reminisce.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents William and Sophia Anderson, father Thomas McMahon, Sister in law Velda Anderson. He is survived by his adoring wife Marilyn, sons Shannon (Susan) McMahon and Nathan (Jennifer) McMahon, granddaughter Nora Joy. Brothers Thomas Anderson, William (Cathy) Anderson, and Tommy Joe McMahon. Sisters Elaine (Eric) Jacobs, Marilyn {Pepper} Renshaw, Colleen, and Cindy as well as nephews and nieces.
