John Mark Gimlin was born on August 18, 1947 in Clarksville, Johnson County Arkansas. He attended Gray High School in Idabel, Oklahoma and graduated in 1965. He claimed some of his fondest memories were attending Gray High. He served 15 years in the United States military in the Army, Oklahoma National Guard and Air Force during the Vietnam War and after. He also attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he earned an Associates Degree. By trade, Mark was an electronics engineer working in aviation, circuit boards and other high-tech areas. He loved politics, the University of Oklahoma Sooners athletics, the Olympic Games, going to movies and the comedy of Rodney Dangerfield. You could usually find Mark goofing around and quoting the self-deprecating comic. An avid lover of music, especially rock n' roll of the 50's and 60's, Elvis Presley and the Beatles were two of his personal favorites. The fondness for music didn't just stop with collecting vinyl, he also played bass guitar.
Mark passed away on July 10, 2024 in Arlington, Texas, after a short hospitalization. He is survived by his wife, Fong Dowker, of Grand Prairie, Texas; brother David (Jan) Gimlin of Hobart, Oklahoma; brother Danny (Janie) Behne of Norman, Oklahoma; daughter Angela (Jeff Ward) Gimlin of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter Amy (Jason) Albracht of Leander, Texas and grandchildren Hunter and Hadley Albracht. He also had several nieces and nephews who he cherished.
One of Mark's greatest pleasures were his pets, mostly cats, so the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the nonprofit animal shelter Operation Kindness at www.operationkindness.org
