Dr. Chaney was our pastor for many years at Inglewood Baptist Church.  What a wonderful pastor he was!  Mildred also taught our daughter, who is now a children’s minister, in Sunday School.  They were such amazing examples of Christian love.   We will always hold them in the highest regard, and always in our hearts.  We won’t be able to attend the funeral as we will be traveling.  Our sincere condolences to all the family.

After he retired he asked me to just call him Roline or JR.   I had always called him Dr. Chaney and I felt funny calling him anything different.    I remember going to a Dallas Baptist Association meeting with him.  We discussed that after W. A. Criswell passed away he was the longest tenured non-retired pastor in the Association.  

We will miss him but look forward to seeing he and Mildred in heaven.


Dr. Chaney was a 
Godly man who had great wisdom that he shared when asked.  It was an honor and privilege to work beside him for 12+ years.  I am more proud that I could call him my friend.  I talked with him many times as a son toward a respected father.  I respected him like my own father.  I have many fond memories.  I was honored when he asked me to go deer hunting with him on occasion.  One time I saw a deer, and he tells me to be sure it wasn’t a goat!   Oh my, we had seen some goats in the area but I knew this one was a deer.  I missed three shots at the deer but he took the fourth shot and he dropped it in one shot.    As his grandchildren came along, he was always ready to share their deer adventures.  Some deer they got were very good size.   He and Mildred would share about their family “camps” for the grandchildren.  He was very proud of his children and especially his grandchildren.   He enjoyed sharing snippets of their life and was always proud of them and smiling as he shared.  

Another memory was when I worked on his little red and white family boat and he came out to chat with me.  He started moving pieces in the motor all around and it quit working.  After he left I was able to get it working again.  

I remember he kept trying to harvest pecans from his backyard tree.  He shared that he thought after he took care of the squirrel that was stealing his pecans he would finally get some pecans.  Later, he mentioned about 15 squirrels had been “taken care of” but more squirrels were replacing the ones that had been extinguished.  He finally said he was giving up trying to get any pecans.  

He and Mildred meant a lot to Shari and I.  We learned to be gracious hosts and how to serve God in times of pleasure and in trying times as well.

My condolences to Dr. Chaneys family. I was blessed to serve at Inglewood Baptist Church as Singles Minister until May 1998. Dr. Chaney and his wife Mildred were a huge blessing to my ministry and family. So glad Dr. Chaney has joined his wife in heaven with Jesus.
