Helen Louise Holmes Swain went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday night, November 25, 2020. Louise was born on August 13, 1937 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to the parents of Ed and Edith (Dixon) Holmes.
Louise grew up in Ponca City, Oklahoma. After graduating from high school, she married the love of her life, Earl Swain on August 21, 1955. They moved to Stillwater, where Earl finished his college degree at Oklahoma State University. During that time Louise worked for the agronomy professor at the university.
Louise became an Air Force wife after Earl graduated college and was commissioned into the Air Force. The next eight years were spent in the USAF with thirteen moves around the country. During this time Louise and Earl had three children in rapid succession. In1965 Earl resigned his Air Force commission and began flying for American Airlines. They eventually put roots down in Grand Prairie, Texas. Once their children were established in school, Louise began working in a dental office and worked there until 1976. She transitioned to a career as an administrative assistant at Dallas Power & Light and worked her way up to the position of Executive Assistant for a Vice President of Texas Utilities, retiring in 1992.
Louise had a passion for serving the Lord and serving her family. After moving to Grand Prairie, she and her family joined First Baptist Church where she served primarily in youth ministries. In 1975, they became founding members of Grand Prairie Bible Church where she enjoyed serving in many capacities including working in the nursery, helping with Awana and VBS, and exercising her gift of hospitality.
Louise considered family to be one of her greatest blessings. Spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was what she loved most. Traveling was also a great enjoyment for her. She felt it provided a unique experience and education which she shared with her family by including them in her journeys. Louise toured the world for pleasure as well as visiting and encouraging missionaries who she and Earl supported.
Louise left behind the legacy of a godly woman. She was the model of a loving mother and a faithful wife, steadfast in prayer for her family and friends, having faith anchored in the promises of God’s Word.
“Her children arise and call her blessed” (Proverbs 31:28).
Louise is survived by; Daughter, Lynette and husband Mark Lagow; Son, Mike and wife Cynthia Swain; Daughter, Terri and husband Mike Pulec; Grandchildren, Matt, Kristin, Oliva, Abigail, Mary, Michael, Mark, Tim and Sandy; Great grandchildren, Kaden, Justice, Mercy, Anson, Kennedy, Evelyn, Tate, Norah, Madeline, Connor and Aurora.
