Dorothy was known by many as simply “Dot”. Family members knew her as Mama, Mother, Grandmother and GiGi.
Dorothy cherished her family and loved playing games. Dominoes, cards, shuffleboard and Texas Hold ‘em. She loved classic movies, music and simply watching nature and all the activities from her apartment window.
Dorothy was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Grand Prairie, Texas for 68 years.
She attended North Texas State University and followed three career paths. The first was being a stay-at-home mom caring for her two children: Larry and Becky. Her second path was several years with the Sears Company. Following her retirement from Sears, Dorothy was employed by the University of Texas at Arlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Hubert, husband, Robert O. Gantt, brothers Bud Cain, Pete and A.E, a sister Francis; and an infant sister, Jesse, a great grandson, Elliot Skaggs and nephew, Mike Cain and her niece, Glenda Vee Woodard Dixon.
She is survived by her son Larry Gantt and wife Sylvia of Grand Prairie, her daughter Becky Skaggs and husband Charly of Georgetown, four grandchildren; Austin Skaggs and wife Jessica of Belton, Brandon Gantt Skaggs and wife Sara of Belton, Amanda Gantt of Grand Prairie and Carly Donell and husband Jacob of Georgetown and eleven great grandchildren; Keylee and Andrew Michaels, Sydney, Samantha, , Charlie, Brady, Bennett, and Beau Skaggs, Marilyn, Elsie and Genevieve Donnell and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caring and loving staff of Mountain Creek Retirement Center. Staff and fellow residents remember her red hair, fun attitude, beauty and dressing up every day looking like “a million dollars”.
Visitation and a memorial service will take place on June 4, 2021, at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home, 2951 S Belt Line Road, Grand Prairie, TX Grand Prairie, Texas. Visitation will begin at noon and the memorial celebrating Dorothy’s life will begin at 1:00.
Graveside service will be at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas at 2:00 P.M.
