Corky’s early years were spent working with Coca-Cola while he was attending Garfield County High School. After graduation, he then served in the United States Army. Afterwards, he then worked at Holsum Bread, gaining the nickname of the “Breadman” known throughout the Roaring Fork Valley. Corky would end up retiring from Holsum Bread 28 years later. After spending more than 60 years in Glenwood Springs, he moved to Grand Junction to be closer to family.
Corky enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and for all that knew him, collecting firewood. He also took pride in his home, across from Strawberry Park (aka Sayre Park) where he raised his family.
Corky is survived by his two sons, Henry (Hank) of Grand Junction, and Clifford Schroder of Fruita, CO. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Courtney, Allyssa, and Ricky Schroder. He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Jean Schroder.
A burial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Rosebud Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be sent to the American Cancer Research Foundation.
