Robert Howard Vickers, or “Bobby”, of Lake City, Colorado, passed away on January 2, 2024, in Grand Junction. He was born in Gunnison, Colorado, on September 14, 1946, into Hinsdale County pioneering families on both his father and mother’s sides. He grew up in Lake City, Pueblo, Colorado, (at McClelland’s Children’s Home) and in Pittsburg, California.
Bobby was a proud six and a half year Army veteran, and served in Vietnam with the 1st Air Cavalry, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry, E Company from August 1969 to August 1970. He received the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal for Heroism for his service in Vietnam and Cambodia. He was very proud of his two brothers who also served in combat in Vietnam prior to his tour.
After his Army discharge, he was employed by the Carroll Shelby Racing Team in Venice, California. He later spent 28 years with the US Postal Service as a letter carrier and also worked in address management. He was a proud Letter Carrier’s Union member and representative for Branch 47 in Denver. In his free time, Bobby loved golfing, fishing, NASCAR, and visiting the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 26 years, Becky (Spaine) Vickers; two wonderful children from a previous marriage, Natasha Vickers Drummond, and Kristofor A. Vickers, both of Aurora, Colorado; three grandchildren whom he adored, Alexis Drummond, Brooklyn Drummond, and Xachary Parker, all of Aurora; his sister, Carol Copley, and half-sister, Judy Vickers Parsons; his brother, Ronald (Kathy) Vickers, and half-brothers, Ken Richey, Kevin Richey, and George Vickers, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Howard Vickers and Shirley Lewis Biel; his older brother, John Theodore Vickers; and infant sister, Judy Ann Vickers.
