Richard “Dick” Duncan passed into the loving arms of the heavenly Father on February 27, 2024. He was a kind, loving and compassionate man who lived with integrity, a sense of humor and was always ready to share words of wisdom.
Dick was born in 1944 in Nucla, Colorado, to Lloyd and Gertrude Duncan. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1963 and went on to earn an associate’s degree from Mesa Junior College, a bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University and a master’s degree from Western State College.
He taught Industrial Arts and coached football on the Front Range before moving to Steamboat Springs where he worked as an asphalt paving supervisor for Bluetop Paving, Elam Construction, and Connell Resources.
Dick loved wood carving and fishing and always said “A bad day fishing is always better than a good day working.” He was dedicated to his family and his church. He was active in the youth group at First Assembly on 4th and Grand when he was in high school, drove the church bus in Longmont, taught Sunday School, Royal Rangers and served on the board of Steamboat Christian Center, and served on the board of Orchard Mesa Vineyard Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Duncan and Gertrude (Garber) Duncan, his brother, Donald Duncan and his wife Judy (Bingham) Duncan. He leaves behind two daughters (Dawna and Brenda) and sons-in-law, and five grandchildren.
A service in his honor will be held Monday, March 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Life Community Church in Grand Junction, Colorado.
