On Monday November 30th, Richard Cardwell, loving husband of Sara-Lee Cardwell, passed away peacefully at the age of 79. Rich was born in Evanston, IL to Ed and Ruth Cardwell in 1941. He was a Safety Director for Aldridge Electric in Chicago after working for Cambridge Homes in Libertyville.
Rich had a passion for anything outdoors. He especially loved mountaineering, biking, sailing, and kayaking. He was an avid collector of books, the latest gear to advance his passions, and more tools than anyone could use in a lifetime. After settling in Colorado decades ago, he would happily follow the weather to a new adventure in UT, AZ or Baja. Rich loved to dig into any home project and use his vast knowledge and tools to figure out the best /most efficient way to solve the problem.
A devout catholic, Rich was preceded in death by his parents and stepchild Lisa. He is survived by his wife, Sara-Lee; stepchildren, Andrea and Tony; brothers Tim and Bob; as well as step grandchildren and nieces / nephews.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday December 10th at 1030am at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Grand Junction. Services will be closed due to COVID but streaming will be set up for the mass through the church. Also due to the current environment, please do not send flowers. Donations in Rich's name are welcome to be sent to ASPCA, St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, Montana or Hope West Hospice in Grand Junction.
