April 1, 1924 - April 23, 2024
In the early morning of April 23, 2024 at the Grand Junction VA Medical Center, Mario Vincent Trombetta, affectionately referred to as Pops, passed away of natural causes.
The son of Sicilian immigrants, Mario was born in Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York on April 1, 1924, where he attended Public School 15 and Aviation High School. Upon graduation he joined the US Army Air Corps and served honorably during World War II as an Instrument Specialist.
While on leave during the war, he married his childhood sweetheart and love of his life Mary LaPorto. Together they went on to raise a family of 3, two daughters Lucille Iuliano, Francesca Morales and a son Sandy Trombetta.
He was a Millwright by profession, but was famous for his intelligence, problem-solving ability, and highly respected by all who knew him. He loved the arts and was always challenging his mind with puzzles and games.
He was especially proud of his contributions in the rare blood donor club, where his donations helped save countless lives.
He was a humble and proud man; a rock who could always be counted on. He was devoted to his family and would make any sacrifice for those he loved. Preceded in death by his loving wife Mary of 65 years, Pops will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all that knew him.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 10:00 am in the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Grand Junction, CO with a burial to follow at 12:00 pm at Grand Junction Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that a donation to St Jude's Children's Hospital be made, as Mario was a proud donor himself.
