Jack Dale McLaughlin
November 22, 1926 - February 14, 2015
Jack passed away peacefully Saturday morning surrounded by his loving family.
Jack was born in Woodlake Nebraska, the fourth of seven children. As a young man, Jack worked building mining roads in Telluride. He often returned later in his life to this area he loved. He graduated from Montrose High and then played football at the University of Montana, where he earned a business degree. He served honorably in the US Army.
In 1950, Jack married Peggy Morrison. She preceded him in death. Together they raised three beautiful daughters. Jack married Donna Dinkins in 1984. Together they shared a rich and full life. Jack and Donna shared a passion for travel. They made many wonderful friends while summering in Montana and wintering in Arizona.
Jack was a business and community leader in Grand Junction for many years as the owner of Jack McLaughlin Motors and later, Jack McLaughlin Homes. He was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, and the Elks. Whether he was fly fishing, boating, hunting, or Jeeping the mountain passes, Jack loved Western Colorado. If he wasn't outdoors, he was reading the latest Louis L'Amour book or watching his favorite western movie. He was a passionate football fan and an avid golfer. He could often be found playing cards with his friends and family, where no one recalls him ever losing.
Jack was a devoted father and grandfather, always attentive and extremely generous. The successes of his daughters, Holly Covington (Ken) of Grand Junction; Jan Flaherty (Kevin) of Cary, NC, and Sue Kapushion (Marvin) of Whitewater, CO, was an enormous source of pride to Jack.
Jack is survived by his wife, Donna, and his sisters, Eyla Welborn, Hazel Scott, and Betty Trevino. He has eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy McLaughlin; his brothers, Clarence and Kenneth, and sister, Maxine.
No memorial service has been set at this time.
