Isabel Baker, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away October 8, 2013 at the Hospice Care Center, she was 89.
Isabel was born June 17, 1924 in Mora, New Mexico to Demetrio and Beatrice Cordova and spent her childhood at Roan Creek, near De Beque, CO. She attended school in De Beque where she met the love of her life on a blind date, a next door neighbor, Charles Baker. They would marry on July 3, 1945 in Grand Junction and from this loving union was born three daughters. The family would move to Minturn, CO for a time and later to Grand Junction in 1954. After 62 years of marriage, Charles preceded Isabel in death on June 26, 2008.
Isabel worked for the Kress Five and Dime store as a clerk and Gibson’s and a short time at Dixon’s Inc., before becoming a homemaker. She loved being in the outdoors and working in her garden.
Isabel leaves behind a daughter; Francie (Dick) Niehues of Loma, CO, grandchildren; Kristine (Paul) Elliott and Karin Rees and great grandchildren; Kaitlyn and Megan Elliott.
She was preceded in death by her daughters; Mary Lou Baker and Diann Hart and siblings; Erma, Adele, Charlene, Danny and David.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Martin Mortuary with burial at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A visitation time will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013 from 6-8 PM at the Mortuary.
