Frances Marie Martz

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frances "Fran" Marie Martz, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Fran passed away peacefully at her home in Mesa, Colorado, on October 27, 2024, at the age of 82. Fran was born on January 5, 1942, in Grand Junction, Colorado, to Fred and Irene (Rider) Ligrani. She attended Grand Junction High School and went on to study at Mesa State College. Throughout her life, Fran served her community through her work at the Mesa County Treasurer’s Office and St. Mary’s Hospital, where she formed lasting friendships and touched the lives of many. Fran had a deep love for the outdoors and spent countless hours hunting for arrowheads and fossils. She was a talented painter and an avid collector of angels, a hobby that reflected her gentle spirit. Her loyal companion, her little dog Milo, was always by her side. She is survived by her sister Carole A. Wood (Ligrani) of Broomfield and her three children, Marcia L. Vroman of Mesa, Linwood L. Sawyer, Jr. of Grand Junction, and Eric A. Sawyer of Mesa. Fran was a wonderful mother and adored her eight grandchildren, nineteen great-grand-children and four great-great-grandchildren, who will cherish her memory always! A memorial service to honor Fran’s life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at

Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., with the service following at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Orchard Mesa Cemetery. Fran's warmth, kindness, and love for her family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in her memory to causes close to Fran’s heart.
