Clayton graduated from Olathe High School and later joined the Navy, serving honorably for four and a half years. In 1966, he married Billie Jean Hovis in Delta, Colorado.
In his civilian life, Clayton worked as a custodian at the VA hospital in Grand Junction, where he continued to serve others with pride and commitment.
Outside of work, Clayton had a passion for camping, fishing, four-wheeling, and gardening. Finding solace and joy in nature and the outdoors.
He is survived by his two sons and their spouses: Glen Alan Hovis and Jade Hovis of Grand Junction, and Eugene Eddie Hovis and Shannon Hovis of Blytheville, Arkansas. Additionally, he leaves behind his sister, Lorene Thomson of Coos Bay, Oregon, and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jean Hovis, as well as his sister, Patsy Patton, his brother, Larry Hovis, and his parents, Eddie and Effie Hovis.
Clayton Lee Hovis will be dearly missed by his loved ones and all who knew him.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Martin Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, June 21, 2024 at Martin Mortuary followed by a military committal service, 1:00 PM at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
