He had a perplexing knack of catching fish when no one else was. As an eternal incredulous skeptic, I once observed him fishing very carefully - I noticed that had brought breath mints,  and so got the scent of mint all over his fingers, and so goes the fishing tackle and bait, that’s my pet theory. 
I still don’t know how for certain, and funny, hadn’t noticed that detail for over 60 years… 

He once told me that when he goes,  he wanted to be put in a boat and drift away, endlessly down the river.
Metaphorically, that’s what he got. 

I can’t help but picture Dad in a heaven, organizing the angels into a barbershop quartet, yet insisting that he gets to sing first. We’ll miss you, Dad. Save us a seat at the next show
